About me

I am a dedicated fourth-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Education in the Foundation Phase. At 22 years of age, I am driven by a profound enthusiasm for education and a genuine affection for the transformative power it holds.

My academic journey has been marked by a steadfast commitment to the field of education. Throughout my studies, I have immersed myself in the exploration of educational theories, pedagogical methodologies, and developmental psychology, all of which have deepened my understanding of the intricacies of fostering young minds.

A significant aspect of my character is my penchant for reading and writing. These passions have not only enriched my intellectual horizons but have also honed my communication skills and nurtured my capacity for empathy. The written word, to me, is a means of expressing complex ideas and emotions, a skill that I believe to be indispensable for any effective educator.

However, my ultimate driving force lies in my fervent dedication to children's growth and well-being. I am resolute in my aspiration to become a life-changing teacher, one who not only imparts knowledge but also nurtures character, ignites curiosity, and instills a lifelong love for learning. I firmly believe that education transcends the confines of a classroom, shaping future generations into critical thinkers, empathetic individuals, and responsible global citizens.

My journey thus far has been a testament to my unwavering commitment to excellence and personal growth. As I embark on the path to becoming a proficient educator, I am eager to continue refining my skills, absorbing new insights, and contributing meaningfully to the educational landscape.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me. I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead and look forward to making a positive impact on the lives of the children I will have the privilege to teach.

Micro-Teaching Lesson

On the 17th of August 2023, I completed an online micro-teaching lesson. It was an amazing experience thanks to the ladies in my group. The following is the reflection on my lesson.

For my online micro-teaching lesson, I taught a Grade 3 Afrikaans First Additional Language Lesson on verbs. The aspect of online teaching that I found to be positive would be making use of different online tools, such as Kahoot due to it enhancing my creativity and interactivity with the learners. The aspect of online teaching that I disliked was not being able to see the learners and how they were responding to my lesson, making it difficult for me to identify the learners who required assistance.

Through this experience, I have been able to hone in my skills in operating a digital platform as well as how to adapt my lessons accordingly. I have also come to realize that as a teacher in the 21st century I will constantly be learning new skills and improving my teaching methods. Due to this if I had to teach my lesson again I would have changed a few things. I would have used the appropriate punctuation in my slides. Secondly I would have spent more time going through the verbs and adding more examples to the slides. Lastly, I would have slowed down my pace during the lesson in order to not rush through it.

To my knowledge, I used the appropriate tools to teach the online lesson. The PowerPoint presentation worked well, it flowed and was aesthetically pleasing and worked well alongside Blackboard collaboration features. The Kahoot worked well and kept the learners engaged. In the future I would like to include more interactive tools.

This experience has developed me for teaching in a school due to the fact that I learnt as a teacher I need to be willing and able to adapt and grow in my teaching methods. This experience specifically allowed me to grow already and learn through the challenges I faced during the online micro-teaching.

Hey Catherine 🌻 I enjoyed your lesson so much! I enjoyed being so interactive and actually feeling apart of your Afrikaans lesson. I loved how you asked us individually to make sentences for you with the newly learned words. In your reflection I can see that you took your feedback in account.

Hi Catherine 🌞. I enjoyed being apart of your lesson, it was interactive and creative for a Afrikaans Lesson. I loved how you used the transitions in your slideshow to make the lesson fun and how you incorporated an additional online tool such as Kahoot . Your reflection has shown that you took all the feed back you have received into consideration. You are truly going to make an excellent teacher because you know in this profession there is always opportunities for improvement.🌸

Hi Catherine! I really enjoyed your lesson; it was great to engage in a fun Afrikaans lesson as I have never associated Afrikaans with fun because I really struggled with it. I think If I had a lesson like this when I was younger, I would have done better! I really loved your slide design and love your reflection on how you would do things differently next time, it really shows how my thought you put into developing as a teacher. You are going to be absolutely amazing at it!
