How did you cope/manage completing the three days of “Life of a Teacher”
Effective Time Management: I often had to juggle multiple tasks, including lesson planning, marking and classroom management. Time management skills were crucial to ensure that I could allocate sufficient time to each task.
Professional Development: Continuous learning was essential for me to stay updated with new teaching methods.
Effective Communication: I maintained open lines of communication with students, teachers and administrators.
Adaptability: Being adaptable and flexible in the classroom helped me respond to the diverse needs of the students and handle unexpected situations.
How did you feel taking on all the responsibilities of a teacher in Block 1 compared to Block 2?
Block 1
Initial Preparation: In block 1 I had to spend a significant amount of time developing lesson plans and getting to know the students.
Establishing Classroom Routines: I had to establish classroom routines and expectations to create a positive and productive learning environment.
Block 2
Building on Progress: By block 2 I had had more time to work with the students and could build on the progress made earlier in the year.
Refining Instruction: I had a better understanding of the students' strengths and weaknesses, which allowed me to refine my instructional strategies.
Which activities did you find most challenging? How did you overcome these challenges?
Challenges:
Workload Management: Managing the workload of lesson planning, marking, and administrative tasks was challenging. I found it difficult to balance my time effectively.
Classroom Management: Maintaining discipline and managing classroom behavior was a significant challenge, especially with the diverse groups of students.
Meeting Individual Student Needs: I had to address the individual learning needs of the students, which was challenging when there was a wide range of abilities in the classroom.
How I Overcame the Challenges:
Effective Time Management: I used time management techniques, such as creating daily schedules, setting priorities, and breaking tasks into manageable chunks.
Classroom Management Strategies: I used various classroom management strategies, including clear rules and expectations, positive reinforcement, and establishing a supportive classroom environment.
Differentiation: I used differentiated instruction by providing varied resources and approaches to cater to students with diverse learning needs.
